Our current fundraising goal $105,000 CAD
will pay for the crowding-funding campaign, purchasing
equipment and producing the first two full length (58
minutes) episodes of DIY Destinations. The first
will feature Bolivia and second Peru + Machu Picchu
Synopsis:
Our host Charles referred himself as the “cheapest of
adventurers”, and reveals (with sense of humor) how
anyone can save loads of money with simple tips and by
living like a local in each destination. We will
broaden focus "off the beaten path", and teach our
viewers, to avoid tourist traps, promote use of public
transportation to different attractions, and ways to
save by eating where locals eat. While there are
some major attraction that simply could not be missed,
we'll showcase ways to saves at these iconic places
and how to avoid being drawn into common scams, while
emphasizing and valuable safety tips.
The show promote the broaden of horizon of the
audience to encourage new exploration of different
cultures and brief systems. Our viewers'
perspective will be changed, as the show not only
encourages travel to 3rd world nations and
appreciation for the comforts and luxuries of western
world that are taken for granted.
Each episode will feature a flexible format that
captures the host’s entire journey. The host
will introduce local food eateries, street food, and
other lower cost places to dine that are not widely
catered to tourists. The primary method of
transportation will be public transit to tourist
attractions, and to other cities in the region in the
most economical method within the time limit.
Charles will also advised the viewers on potential
risks, such as pick pocketing or rigged taxi meters
and how to avoid these. The show will
showcase most recommended “must see” attractions, and
any saving tips and how to avoid any potential
"tourist trap" in each location.
One unique portion of the show includes “Cash in…
Destination Name”, where the host will hide $100 in a
special location which will be revealed in order to
encourage the audience to start exploring the
destination. The show also feature a segment
called “Only in…” followed by the city name, e.g. Only
in Lima. The segment features any special
activities or unusual things can only being found in
that particular city, country or region, in which the
host will participate and film with GoPro wearable
camera or use of flying camera drone with HD camera.
